May has arrived; the nights are getting longer and the taste of a summery season is in reach.  It’s the month with two bank holidays, so its our favourite. Entertain yourself with this months need-to know essentials…


Film:  We Are The Best (Directed by Lukas Moodysson)

Released last year in Sweden, the graphic novel adaptation is finally making its UK debut this month, and is fast gaining cult status. Despite having no musical talent or instruments three teenage misfits decide to create an all girl punk band in late 80’s Stockholm. The brisk script and effortless performances make for a fresh take on a somewhat dark coming of age tale. Watch the Trailer:


Fitness: We own the night, Nike, 10k Run, 10th May

The all female 10k running event is back. Last year we had booming music and strobe lighting to guide us on the route around London and I’m sure this year’s will be spectacular too. Once you finish you’ll be given an exclusive necklace designed by London based jeweller, Alex Monroe and the after party will be DJ’d by the one and only Nick Grimshaw. Exclusive Listen: Ulla Nova covers Hot Chip’s ‘Over and Over’ ‘Ulla Nova and Over’ 

London songstress Ulla Nova, has produced an un-released exclusive cover of Hot Chip’s ‘Over and Over’.  See her live this month at The Great Escape Festival, Brighton. Ulla Nova uses a good amount of ‘c’est la vie’ attitude in her music. As does Prince. As does Dolly Parton. As do Cypress Hill and as did Serge Gainsbourg to mention just a few of her very diverse influences. Ulla’s driving her inspiration from Paris and London of the 70’s and 80’s, Les Parisiennes, and Quentin Tarrantino. Ulla Nova has been spending her time in the studio, and supported Bipolar Sunshine on their last UK tour.


Art: Sascha Bailey: Human Relations

Music: The Horrors-Luminous

The fourth anticipated album from British band The Horrors, finally arrives May 5th. Fronted by Faris Badwan, the ten tracked record doesn’t disappoint. With uplifting, melodic keyboards, some northern soul bass line and Badwan’s signature haunting vocals, the record takes another stride in The horrors development.  Released earlier this year, the seven minute long  track I See You and So Now You Know has already teased us with atmospheric electric patterns and dreamy psychedelia. The Horrors- So now You Know..

Beyonce and Jay Z have confirmed that they will tour this summer. Fans of the idyllic couple will have to take a trip to the States as this tour is only in America, starting in Atlanta 15th June and finishing in San Francisco on August 5th. Tickets are on sale now, so if you adore one of the most powerful women in the world then this is your excuse to have a holiday in America!

Culture: HOLI Festival

‘The HOLI Festival takes place on the day of the fullmoon of the Phaluga month and is one of the most famous celebrations in the northern parts of India. At this Hindu-Festival people celebrate the victory of the good over the bad and the beginning of the spring.’ We will be celebrating this event in London through the festival that will have a range of different DJ’s playing and a lot of coloured powder!
