New Music: The Black Keys

After a two and a half year hiatus, The Black Keys are back with a bang. If the excitement to have them back on stage wasn’t already enough, after the announcement of becoming the third headliner at Latitude festival and also playing at Glastonbury this Summer,  we’re hypnotised by their new material – literally.

The Ohio duo dropped ‘Fever’ on March 24th, announcing it as the official first song from their eighth studio album ‘Turn Blue’. It’s not just the irresistible (and instantly recognisable) melody of their new material that pulls you further and further into the track but, the accompanying video. It may just be a simple blue and pink spiral but the hypnotic animation memorises you and lends itself to the following album ‘teasers’ – if you can call them so.

Following the release of ‘Fever’, further album teasers were released featuring a both humorous and slightly unsettling hypnotist encouraging the viewer to ‘let yourself go…if you follow me, you will turn blue’. Maybe a less traditional approach to an album teaser, but it has definitely drawn us in.

Unbelievably, it’s been twelve years since their first album and since then we have seen these American rockers transform from their garage blues beginnings to slick and sexy summer soundtracks. We can’t wait to hear the rest of this psychedelic groove when the album drops on May 13.
